Competing Hi-Def High-Art and the End of the Simulcast Season

I wanted to complete the halfway-done Thursday-to-Wednesday event post from last week. The only two things I left off (besides who was actually playing on the jazz shows I mentioned...hey, I was at the beach) were the ballet and opera simulcasts this Wednesday night (7/20).

First, here in Auburn, we have an encore showing of the José Martinez ballet, Children of Paradise (photo at right is from the production and is courtesy of Emerging Pictures), with music by Marc-Olivier Dupin. It was recorded at the Paris Opera. I mentioned the live showing earlier this month in another post which has more about the production. It will play at 7:30 PM at the Carmike Wynnsong 16. Here is the Fandango page to get tickets online. Here is the website of Ballet in Cinema which is part of Emerging Pictures, the firm that provides Carmike Cinemas with these great productions.

If you prefer your high-art movie-theater simulcast on Wednesday night to be Italian opera rather than French ballet, then you're in luck. In Montgomery, Rave Motion Pictures will be showing Puccini's Tosca at 6:30 PM. This is from the series called The Met: Live in HD put on by the New York Metropolitan Opera. Here is The Met's website for the Summer showings which currently has more information about Tosca. For tickets to this one, go to this movietickets.com page to purchase online.

We are at or near the end of both of these series until October. The Rave will do one more on July 27 (Verdi's Don Carlo), but I'm not sure what will happen after that. If you want to put in your support of these productions coming through to our communities, then you can go to the theater companies' websites and offer feedback. Here is the feedback page for Carmike, and here is the contact page for Rave.
